Washington, DC (September 9, 2009) — NCB, known for providing creative financial solutions tailored to meet the needs of cooperatives nationwide especially in low- and moderate-income communities, has proudly named five recipients for its annual NCB Community Service Award. Created in 2004, the award recognizes employees of NCB Financial Group for their outstanding community service work to mission-related organizations in underserved areas in communities in which the Bank has offices.
“We feel it’s important to recognize and support the ongoing commitments of our employees, who are devoted to bettering the communities where they work and reside,” said Charles E. Snyder, President and CEO of NCB. “This year marks the fifth anniversary of the NCB Community Service Award. I’m pleased to be part of an organization where community service is a major component of our employees’ lives, and very proud to award their charities for their effort.”
The award recipients include two finalists and three runners-up, whose individual charities were awarded donations to salute these dedicated volunteers.
The finalists, whose organizations each received a contribution of $1,000, were Anne Geggie, Relationship Manager in the Community Investment Group at NCB Capital Impact and Mike Flanigan, Branch Manager and Business Development Officer in Wilmington, OH.
Ms. Geggie is a volunteer for the DC Earned Income Tax Credit – Community Tax Aid, an organization that helps with tax preparation for low-income people in Washington D.C. Maryland and Virginia. She has been volunteering with the program for four years and in addition to providing support and tax preparation, now helps train new volunteers.
Mr. Flanigan was honored for his work as an Advisory Board Member of the Red Cross. He not only serves on the Advisory Committee, but on the Heroes Fundraising Cabinet and as a Red Cross Volunteer. Mr. Flanigan is an active volunteer in the Wilmington Red Cross office, which maintains a full staff, a local volunteer committee, a fundraising cabinet as well as disaster teams.
The runners-up, whose organizations each received a contribution of $500 were Sherinda Robinson, a portfolio manager in the Community Investment Group at NCB Capital Impact, Migle Maciunskaite, an Information Technology Program Manager at NCB, and Shannon Scott, Controller of NCB Capital Impact.
Ms. Robinson serves as a volunteer for Christ House, a 34-bed healthcare facility in Washington, DC that provides temporary residence for homeless males transitioning out of medical facilities. In addition, Christ House provides assistance with substance abuse, rehabilitation and mental health issues.
Ms. Maciunskaite was recognized for her involvement with Computer C.O.R.E. Computer C.O.R.E provides basic computer skills training to under-employed adults of Northern Virginia who have little or no experience with computers. Ms. Maciunskaite has been volunteering for over two years as a computer lab tutor and also provides computer monitoring support.
Ms. Scott is an active volunteer and currently serves as Treasurer for Miriam’s Kitchen. Miriam’s Kitchen, provides free, high-quality meals and support services through numerous programs to address the causes and consequences of homelessness in Washington, DC.
