Dion W. Smith Named Chief Credit Officer for National Cooperative Bank

Dion SmithArlington, VA (April 10, 2024) — National Cooperative Bank (NCB), a leading financial institution serving cooperatives, their members, and socially responsible organizations nationwide, is pleased to announce that Dion W. Smith has been named its new Chief Credit Officer after the retirement of Shaun Kelly who had been with NCB for 7 years.

Prior to being named Chief Credit Officer, Mr. Smith was the Senior Credit Officer for NCB overseeing the commercial real estate, cooperative housing, and community association loans.  Mr. Smith has been with NCB for over 7 years and has worked as a Senior Loan Review officer in addition to his roles in the credit department.    

As Chief Credit Officer, Mr. Smith will be responsible for setting loan policy, managing the credit and loan closing processes, provide credit guidance throughout the organization and assure documentation follows loan committee approvals and regulatory audits.

Mr. Smith has over 40 years of banking experience, and prior to joining NCB in 2016, was Vice President, Senior Relationship Manager at M&T Bank.

Mr. Smith has an Associate of Arts (A.A.), Business Management from Prince George's Community College and has completed the Maryland Banking School and Cornell University Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion certification.  Mr. Smith is a Board Member of Rochdale Capital, an emerging Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) located in Arlington, VA.
